The Younger Generation
Tuesday, September 7th, 2010As a Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, and Yes I actually am ‘that old’ [said with a smile] I have had many years to be around varying levels of a ‘Younger Generation’.
This year I have been especially blessed, in connecting with my own children and grandchildren who I had not see in some time, years in fact due to geographic distances, and especially with the children of a wonderful friend and colleague with whom I have been staying.
Yesterday I had the pleasure of helping their mother surprise her nineteen year old son with his first car. Not a shiny expensive toy for a spoilt child, a neat clean twenty five year old vehicle which has been well maintained, and will be lovingly driven by a grateful young man.
Chris was aware that he would be getting his car, which was a late birthday present, however had not been expecting it until later in the week. Despite having a need for it to get him to a new second [2nd] job he was starting this morning, he had cheerfully made alternative arrangements to travel there with a friend who lives some suburbs away. This would have necessitated him traveling to his friends home at around midnight, to stay the night, before beginning his new job this morning
The look of surprise and joy on his face last night when his mother and I collected him from work at 11.30pm with his ‘new car’ was priceless.
This young man is a credit to his mother. A polite, well mannered, musical and more especially drug free teenager, who ‘counsels’ those of his friends who are in need. He is open to the alternatives of healing that his mother and I offer and will openly request assistance when he feels it is required.
In all honesty, a pleasure to be around.
So thank you Chris, for accepting me into your home and your family, and allowing me to be a part of a wonderful memory.
For those of you with a Younger Generation in your life, enjoy them while you can, they soon grow up and away.
Peace Love and Light
Sheila
